Recently, the pupils from Fountain Head House School visited Grove Farm, where they learned all about how wheat is grown.
The children followed the journey of how wheat grows, starting with observing how the seeds are planted, looking at how they grow into wheatgrass, seeing how wheatgrass turns into fully grown wheat, and finally discovering how it is made into bread. One of the highlights of the day was getting to prepare their very own plots of soil, ready to grow wheat back at school. The pupils removed weeds, raked the soil, planted wheat seeds, and watered their plots carefully.
Later, the pupils enjoyed meeting the farm animals. Grove Farm gave the pupils the chance to get up close to the animals, and even give a gentle stroke to a few furry friends, which the pupils loved.
Here is what a few of the pupils had to say about the day:
“It was kind of good because I got to see the animals.”
“I enjoyed raking the soil and using the watering can.”
“The farmer let us bring some of our own wheat back to school – and it’s getting long!”
“It’s not like a normal farm where you just see animals – you get to actually go close to them. Some farms you don’t get to touch them.”
We are so proud of how curious, respectful and enthusiastic our pupils were throughout the visit. The pupils are already looking forward to seeing how their wheat grows back at school.
