SAFEGUARDING AT FHHS

Working Together to Keep Children Safe

At Fountain Head House School, safeguarding is not a single policy or process – it is the foundation of everything we do.

We safeguard because every child deserves to be unequivocally safe, seen, heard and able to flourish.

Safeguarding is the umbrella over all aspects of school life, guiding our decisions, routines, relationships and environments. It means protecting wellbeing, removing barriers to learning, and building trusting relationships so that every pupil can grow with dignity, confidence and independence.

Our Safeguarding Commitment

  • Safeguarding at our school means that we:

  • Place children’s wellbeing and voice at the centre of all we do

  • Actively anticipate risk, rather than only reacting to concerns

  • Create environments where pupils feel safe, respected and listened to

  • Support pupils to develop the skills they need to flourish academically, socially and emotionally

  • We understand that children thrive best when they feel secure, understood and valued.

SGF Gold Award Winner

Following a detailed review under the SGF Gold Framework, Fountain Head House was found to be outstanding in every area assessed — including strategic safeguarding leadership. The Gold Framework is intentionally rigorous. It explores strategic oversight, stakeholder voice, inspection-style discussions with the DSL, live safeguarding scenarios, questionnaires across cohorts and a focused review of innovation and best practice. It is designed not simply to test compliance, but to evidence culture, leadership and lived safeguarding practice at every level.

At Fountain Head House, that culture is deeply embedded.

Led by @Dan Turner, whose leadership as DSL is both meticulous and thoughtful, safeguarding is clearly understood as everyone’s responsibility. Dan is always humble, always reflective and always looking for ways to innovate — not only to strengthen systems for children, but to support and empower staff in their safeguarding roles.

Importantly, innovation at Fountain Head House is not ad hoc. It is dealt with strategically. Projects are carefully designed to ensure that all aspects of safeguarding are considered and strengthened — from staff confidence and training, to student voice, to oversight and accountability. This is innovation with purpose.

We will be sharing more of this work in the coming weeks. For now, one example stands out: Dan’s excellent Safeguarding Podcasts — concise, accessible audio updates for staff that reinforce key safeguarding messages and keep safeguarding live in daily practice. Simple, practical and highly effective.

What was particularly striking was that this culture does not sit with one individual. It is owned across the whole school. The Head and Board demonstrated exceptional strategic oversight and commitment. Staff at every level understood their role. Safeguarding was visible, confident and values-driven.

Gold is never about paperwork alone. It is about evidence of strategic leadership, stakeholder voice, robust systems and a willingness to continuously improve. Fountain Head House School demonstrated all of this — and more. A truly well-deserved recognition.

Staying Safe Online

With the increased access children have to devices that can connect to the internet, it has never been more important to understand how to be safe when using online content.

Whether children are accessing images, online games, social media platforms or just surfing the web, as part of their homework, they need to remain safe.

At Fountain Head House School we take Online Safety seriously and wanted to share some useful information with parents/carers/guardians and children to help raise awareness of this important subject area.

Online Safety

We use robust filtering and monitoring systems to protect pupils online. Our curriculum includes digital literacy and online safety education, helping children navigate the digital world safely.
