Interview with Julie Dingle - Occupational Therapist

This term, we would like to introduce Julie Dingle, who joined Fountain Head House School as our Occupational Therapist in September. Julie brings extensive experience, compassion, and dedication to supporting young people within the neurodiversity pathway.
We asked Julie to tell us a bit about what inspires her and the work she does with pupils.
- What inspired you to work with children with SEN?
- Following my career break I was considering areas I would like to work on return to my profession. From my voluntary experience in Girlguiding with children and experience of being a mum I felt ready to consider working with children and young people having always worked in the adult sector. During my last role working in CAMHS on the neurodiversity pathway I developed a passion for enabling children and young people to develop their resilience and independence and thrive through having the right support in place. I love working in environments where there is a multi-disciplinary team approach and so working in a school environment where the ethos aligned with my beliefs was a perfect fit.
- What do you enjoy most about being an Occupational Therapist?
- I am passionate about enabling others to fulfil their potential through meaningful activities (occupations), whatever they are. What I love about working as an occupational therapist is the unique holistic perspective we bring. Building a relationship to understand and appreciate all aspects of the individual and their life including cognitive, environmental, emotional, physical, sensory, and mental health elements.
- What are some of the key areas you focus on with pupils?
- My approach is to find motivating factors for the individual, and to determine their strengths and needs in all elements to help them thrive.
Since joining Fountain Head House School, Julie is already making a positive impact. She works closely with pupils to understand their strengths and needs, and her expertise and practical approach support their development and wellbeing.
