Supporting Saltash ABC with New Boxing Equipment

Updated: Oct 14

At Fountain Head House School, we proudly support individuals who make a positive impact on our local community. Recently, we donated new boxing equipment to Saltash ABC, the local boxing club run by Micky Northfield.

Micky regularly runs non-contact boxing sessions with our pupils, helping them develop discipline, teamwork, and self-belief. His sessions are always encouraging everyone to challenge themselves and grow in a positive way.

The non-contact boxing has so many benefits. It helps young people release anger or stress in a healthy way, improves their mood and focus, and builds confidence and discipline.

Before founding Saltash ABC, Micky spent 35 years in the Royal Marines and went on to dedicate his life to helping young people across Cornwall. For the past 17 years, he has run the boxing club and works closely with local schools and police to reach young people who can benefit positively from the sport.

Beyond boxing, he has also supported young people facing homelessness, helping them find accommodation and access financial support. “It’s very rewarding, and I love it,” - he said.

As Micky explained, “We help young people with their anger issues, commitment, or maybe a bit of confidence boosting or self-esteem. And it’s very successful.”

It was great to see him again and hear more about the work he is doing. We are sure the new boxing equipment will inspire more young people to step into the gym, challenge themselves, and experience the positive impact that boxing can have on both body and mind.
