Exploring Careers at Princess Yachts

As part of Careers Month at FHHS, our pupils had an opportunity to visit Princess Yachts, one of Plymouth’s largest employers. Based in our coastal city, the company has a strong connection to the ocean and understands the importance of protecting it.

Sustainability plays a key role in their work. Princess Yachts are committed to responsible yachting, offering hybrid technology, eco-friendly material options and energy-saving innovations. It was inspiring for our pupils to see a global company taking environmental responsibility seriously, particularly one that depends so greatly on the sea.

During the visit, pupils learned that building a yacht involves far more than people might imagine. Princess Yachts employs many people with a variety of skills, not just yacht builders e.g. carpenters, electricians, designers, upholsterers as well as general cleaners and caterers.

As part of their Early Careers programme our pupils were invited to see these roles in action and gain a real insight into the variety of pathways available within one organisation. The visit helped them understand how different skills, interests and talents can all lead to rewarding careers.
